## What is it?

Xcode downloads from the Apple Developer website come as signed, compressed .xip archives. Once you have expanded one and moved Xcode to Applications, the .xip is only a redundant copy of several GB.

## What happens if you delete it?

Not recreated; you can download it again from the Apple Developer website with your Apple Account.

## How to remove it properly

Make sure the matching Xcode is installed and opens, then move the .xip to the Trash.
