## What is it?

The shared package cache of Dart and Flutter, `~/.pub-cache`, holds every package version downloaded by `flutter pub get` or `dart pub get`, Git dependencies, and globally activated tools. It is shared by all your projects and typically grows to a few gigabytes.

## What happens if you delete it?

Packages are downloaded again the next time each project runs `flutter pub get` or `dart pub get`. Globally activated packages (`dart pub global activate`) have to be activated again.

## How to remove it properly

Run `dart pub cache clean --force` (or `flutter pub cache clean`) in Terminal, which is the official way to empty this cache; it deletes permanently. Then run `flutter pub get` in the projects you work on.

## Before you delete it

Note the global tools you use (`dart pub global list`) before cleaning so you can activate them again.
