# Is it safe to delete Steam games in steamapps/common?

## What is it?

Each folder in `steamapps/common` is an installed Steam game with all its assets. Sizes range from under 1 GB to well over 100 GB per game.

## What happens if you delete it?

Uninstalled games can be downloaded again from your Steam library. Steam Cloud keeps saves for most games, but some store saves only locally, sometimes inside the game folder.

## How to remove it properly

In Steam, open Library, right-click the game and choose Manage › Uninstall. To keep a game but free internal space, add a library folder on another drive in Steam › Settings › Storage, then use Manage › Move install folder.

## Before you delete it

Back up mods and local saves first: uninstalling removes the whole game folder.
