## What is it?

Volta fetches each Node.js version a project or your default asks for and stores it in `~/.volta/tools/image/node`, one folder per version. Versions used once by an old project stay until you remove them.

## What happens if you delete it?

Volta downloads a removed version again the next time a project pinned to it (through the `volta` section of its `package.json`) runs Node.

## How to remove it properly

Run `volta list all` to see installed versions, then move the folders of versions you no longer need from `~/.volta/tools/image/node` to the Trash; Volta has no command to uninstall a Node version.

## Before you delete it

Keep the version Volta uses as your default outside projects; `volta list node` shows it.
