## What is it?

pnpm keeps a single copy of every package version in a content-addressable store, `~/Library/pnpm/store` on macOS, and links or clones files from it into each project’s `node_modules`. Because files are shared that way, the space it appears to use is partly the same space your projects’ `node_modules` use.

## What happens if you delete it?

Packages that are pruned or deleted are downloaded again on the next `pnpm install` that needs them. Projects keep working as long as their `node_modules` is intact.

## How to remove it properly

Run `pnpm store prune` in Terminal, which removes only packages no project references any more and deletes them permanently; `pnpm store path` shows the store’s exact location.

## Before you delete it

Deleting the whole store frees less space than its size suggests while projects still share its files, and the next installs must download everything again.
