## In short

- Check that Alert me before my disk fills up is on in MoreRoom › Settings… › General.
- Check System Settings › Notifications › MoreRoom: Allow notifications must be on, and Focus may hide alerts.
- Alerts are rare by design and come only while MoreRoom is running. Turn on Open at login, in the menu bar.

## How to make alerts work

1. **Turn alerts on in MoreRoom.** Open MoreRoom › Settings… › General and turn on Alert me before my disk fills up. If it turns itself off, macOS is blocking MoreRoom’s notifications.
2. **Allow notifications in macOS.** Open System Settings › Notifications, click MoreRoom and turn on Allow notifications. Choose Banners or Alerts.
3. **Check Focus.** If a Focus such as Do Not Disturb is on, notifications are held in Notification Center. Allow MoreRoom in that Focus if you want its alerts.
4. **Keep MoreRoom running.** Turn on Open at login, in the menu bar, so MoreRoom keeps measuring with the window closed.

## The switch turns itself off

When you turn alerts on, MoreRoom asks macOS for permission. If notifications for MoreRoom are blocked — because you clicked **Don’t Allow** once, or turned them off later — macOS says no, and the switch goes back off. Allow notifications in **System Settings › Notifications › MoreRoom**, then turn the switch on again.

## Everything is on, but nothing comes

That’s often normal. MoreRoom only sends three alerts, and only when they’re useful:

- **almost full** — when free space drops under 10% of the disk or under 20 GB, whichever is larger, at most every 3 days;
- **a folder grew fast** — 10 GB or more in a day, at most once a week per folder;
- **weekly summary** — when your last scan found 5 GB or more that’s safe to remove, at most once a week.

If your disk has plenty of room and nothing grows fast, you won’t hear from MoreRoom — by design. See [Alerts](https://moreroom.app/support/alerts).

## MoreRoom must be running

Alerts come from Storage Weather’s measurements, which only run while MoreRoom is open (the window can be closed). If you quit MoreRoom, there are no measurements and no alerts. Turn on **Open at login, in the menu bar**.

## Notification Center

Missed a banner? Click the date and time in the menu bar to open Notification Center: MoreRoom’s alerts are grouped there.
