The short answer
Usually, after a check. Might hold something you care about. Look inside before removing it.
What is it?
Each Android Studio release keeps its own settings folder in ~/Library/Application Support/Google, named after the version (for example AndroidStudio2024.2): your IDE preferences, keymaps, code styles, installed plugins and recent projects. When you update, Android Studio imports settings from the previous folder but leaves it in place.
Settings, plugins and indexes left by previous Android Studio versions. The newest is kept.
What happens if you delete it?
Old folders are not recreated. Once you have updated and your current version has its own copy of your settings, removing an older one loses nothing you use; removing the current one resets Android Studio to defaults.
How to remove it properly
Quit Android Studio, open ~/Library/Application Support/Google with Finder’s Go › Go to Folder…, and move the folders of versions you no longer run to the Trash, keeping the newest one.
Quit the app that uses it, then move it to the Trash. Empty the Trash when you’re sure.
- MoreRoom keeps the newest 1 and suggests the older ones.
Before you delete it
If you run a stable and a preview (Canary or Beta) build side by side, each has its own folder: keep both.
How MoreRoom helps
MoreRoom recognises this item and labels it “Review first”: it shows what’s inside, its size and last use, so you can decide. Nothing is removed without your say, and everything goes to the Trash first, with Undo.
