The short answer

Yes. Rebuilt or re-downloaded automatically when needed.

What is it?

When you install the electron npm package or build an app with tools such as electron-builder or Electron Forge, the Electron runtime zips are downloaded into ~/Library/Caches/electron. Each Electron version and architecture adds another archive of roughly 100 MB, and nothing removes old ones automatically.

What happens if you delete it?

The archives are downloaded again the next time a project installs or packages an Electron version that is no longer cached. Installed apps and your projects are not affected.

How to remove it properly

Move the folder to the Trash in Finder (Go › Go to Folder… ~/Library/Caches/electron).

Quit the app that uses it, then move it to the Trash. Empty the Trash when you’re sure.

How MoreRoom helps

MoreRoom recognises this item, shows its real size and when it was last used, and labels it “Safe to remove”. In the free version you can move it to the Trash in one click, with Undo; Pro collects every safe item at once.
