The short answer
Usually, after a check. Might hold something you care about. Look inside before removing it.
What is it?
The Telegram app for macOS keeps downloaded photos, videos, voice messages and files in this group container, alongside your account data. The media cache can grow to tens of GB with busy groups and channels.
Telegram's whole data folder: cached media, but also your login session and secret chats. Clear the media from Telegram itself.
What happens if you delete it?
Cleared media stays in the Telegram cloud and downloads again when you open the chat. Secret chats are the exception: their media exists only on your devices.
How to remove it properly
In Telegram, open Settings › Data and Storage › Storage Usage and clear the cache, per chat or all at once. You can also set a maximum cache size and how long media is kept.
From the app itself: Telegram > Settings > Data and Storage > Storage Usage.
Before you delete it
Do not move the whole group container to the Trash: it also holds your session and local data, so you would be signed out and lose secret chats.
How MoreRoom helps
MoreRoom recognises this item and labels it “Review first”: it shows what’s inside, its size and last use, so you can decide. Nothing is removed without your say, and everything goes to the Trash first, with Undo.
