The short answer
Yes. Rebuilt or re-downloaded automatically when needed.
What is it?
uv, the Python package and project manager, keeps downloaded and built packages, Git dependencies and other data in a shared cache, ~/.cache/uv on macOS. On macOS it clones files from the cache into virtual environments, so the space is partly shared with your environments. It grows quickly with large packages.
What happens if you delete it?
uv downloads and builds packages again the next time a project or environment needs them. Existing virtual environments keep working.
How to remove it properly
Run uv cache clean in Terminal, uv’s own command, which empties the cache permanently; uv cache prune removes only unused entries, and uv cache dir shows the location.
Use the tool’s official command: uv cache clean
How MoreRoom helps
MoreRoom recognises this item, shows its real size and when it was last used, and labels it “Safe to remove”. In the free version you can move it to the Trash in one click, with Undo; Pro collects every safe item at once.
When the tool is installed, MoreRoom runs its official command for you (uv cache clean) instead of deleting files — and tells you that this step can’t be undone.
