The short answer
Usually, after a check. Might hold something you care about. Look inside before removing it.
What is it?
Volta fetches each Node.js version a project or your default asks for and stores it in ~/.volta/tools/image/node, one folder per version. Versions used once by an old project stay until you remove them.
Node.js versions fetched by Volta. Volta downloads a removed version again when a project pins it.
What happens if you delete it?
Volta downloads a removed version again the next time a project pinned to it (through the volta section of its package.json) runs Node.
How to remove it properly
Run volta list all to see installed versions, then move the folders of versions you no longer need from ~/.volta/tools/image/node to the Trash; Volta has no command to uninstall a Node version.
Quit the app that uses it, then move it to the Trash. Empty the Trash when you’re sure.
- MoreRoom keeps the newest 1 and suggests the older ones.
Before you delete it
Keep the version Volta uses as your default outside projects; volta list node shows it.
How MoreRoom helps
MoreRoom recognises this item and labels it “Review first”: it shows what’s inside, its size and last use, so you can decide. Nothing is removed without your say, and everything goes to the Trash first, with Undo.
