The short answer

Yes. Rebuilt or re-downloaded automatically when needed.

What is it?

Folders named like com.microsoft.VSCode.ShipIt are left by Squirrel, the update framework used by many Electron apps such as VS Code, Slack and Claude. They hold the update package an app downloaded and its update logs, often hundreds of MB each.

Update packages left by apps such as VS Code, Slack or Claude. Removed safely; an app downloads its next update again.

What happens if you delete it?

Safe once the update has been installed; the app downloads its next update into a new folder.

How to remove it properly

Quit the app, then move the matching .ShipIt folder in ~/Library/Caches to the Trash.

Quit the app that uses it, then move it to the Trash. Empty the Trash when you’re sure.

Before you delete it

If an app shows an update ready to install, restart the app to install it first, or it will download the update again.
