Remove items safely: the Trash, the Collector and Undo

How MoreRoom removes items: one at a time or in one go with the Collector, always to the Trash first, with Undo (⌘Z) and History.

In short

  • Select an item and click Move to Trash in the inspector (or press ⌘⌫). MoreRoom asks you to confirm, then moves it to the Trash.
  • With Pro, collect items from anywhere with Add to Collector (⌘K), check them in one list with Review & Free Up, and free them in one click.
  • Everything goes to the Trash first: press ⌘Z or click Undo to put it back, or use History in the sidebar. MoreRoom never empties the Trash.

How to remove an item and undo it

  1. Select the item Click it on the map, in the rings or the list, or in Free Up Space. The inspector shows what it is and its safety label.
  2. Move it to the Trash Click Move to Trash in the inspector, press ⌘⌫, or Control-click the item and choose Move to Trash….
  3. Confirm MoreRoom shows the item’s name and size and asks you to confirm. Click Move to Trash.
  4. Undo if needed A message at the bottom of the window confirms what was moved, with an Undo button. You can also press ⌘Z, or use History in the sidebar later.

One item at a time (Free and Pro)

Select an item and click Move to Trash in the inspector, press ⌘⌫, or Control-click it and choose Move to Trash…. In Free Up Space, Downloads Cleanup and the Smart Views, each item also has a trash button.

MoreRoom always asks first: “Move “name” (size) to the Trash?” — “You can undo with ⌘Z or restore it from History.” Click Move to Trash to go ahead, or Cancel.

A message then appears at the bottom of the window — for example “2.4 GB moved to the Trash” — with an Undo button, and the item disappears from the map.

Many items in one go: the Collector (Pro)

The Collector is a basket for everything you want to free.

  1. Add items with Add to Collector in the inspector, ⌘K, the Control-click menu, or the + buttons in Free Up Space. Add All Safe Items adds everything labelled “Safe to remove” at once. Adding a folder replaces any of its items already in the Collector.
  2. A pill appears at the bottom of the window: Collector · n items · size.
  3. Click Review & Free Up. The review sheet lists every item with its path, size and safety dot. Click – to take an item out.
  4. Click Free Up size (or press Return). Items move to the Trash in one batch — one Undo puts them all back.

On the free plan, the Add to Collector buttons show a PRO badge and open the Pro sheet.

Items removed by their own tool

Some items are removed by the tool that manages them, with its official command — for example xcrun simctl delete for a simulator or brew cleanup for Homebrew downloads. The inspector’s button then reads Remove with the tool’s name, and the confirmation tells you which command runs.

  • These items don’t go to the Trash, so they can’t be undone from MoreRoom. Most of them can be downloaded or rebuilt again by the tool.
  • Commands that delete for good are marked Permanent in the review sheet, which also warns you how many there are.
  • Goal mode never picks a permanent removal among items labelled “Review first”.

Undo and History

  • Undo: click Undo in the message, or press ⌘Z (Edit › Undo Move to Trash) to restore the most recent removal that can still be restored.
  • History: click History in the sidebar. Each removal is listed with its number of items, size and date. Click Restore to put a batch back where it was. Batches removed by their tool show Removed by tool; restored ones show Restored.
  • Finder: you can also open the Trash in Finder, Control-click an item and choose Put Back.

See Restore something you removed for the details.

The Trash is yours to empty

MoreRoom never empties the Trash: that’s your final decision. Until you empty it, the items still take space on your disk — that’s why the message says “moved to the Trash” rather than “freed”. When you’re sure, Control-click the Trash in the Dock and choose Empty Trash. After that, items can’t be restored.

Excluded folders are never touched

MoreRoom never removes anything inside a folder listed in Settings › Exclusions, even if you select it.
